RǓNA - SECRET, WHISPERS AND MAGIC

Theatre and dance by Delphine Lanza and Dorian Rossel

An exploration of a young girl’s inner world, of her emotions and the limitless freedom of childhood. I'm talking to three girls. All three of them are blond. Same hairstyle. Wait, not three girls... but ONE girl... who split into three.
She asks me: – What do you dream of doing?

A TASTE FOR THE ANTIQUE - ANNA AND JEAN-GABRIEL EYNARD

Temporary Exhibition

The Geneva banker and philhellene Jean Gabriel Eynard gained international fame by supporting the Greek War of Independence. [...] The Eynard couple's anticomania is obvious. It can be seen in the buildings they constructed (Palais Eynard, Athénée). It also permeated their living environment, as the watercolours of Alexandre Calame show: in addition to the neoclassical furniture, many paintings and sculptures refer to Greco-Roman mythology.

JEAN-MARC MEUNIER, PHOTOGRAPHS: The city in front of you

Temporary Exhibition

The city is at the centre of Jean-Marc Meunier's work. The idea that guides the photographer is to identify what makes up its character. Through a series of shots, he paints a multiple portrait of it, mainly through Geneva.

CITY LIGHTS” BY CHARLIE CHAPLIN

"CITY LIGHTS" BY CHARLIE CHAPLIN

Cine-Concert, directed by Timothy Brock

City Lights is a fable as well as an extraordinary social critique filmed in the midst of the 1930 economic crisis. Chaplin is a poor man who helps the poor in an unjust and hypocritical world, all seasoned with a cleverly dosed burlesque spirit. For this ageless masterpiece, Charlie Chaplin composed all the music and imagined a soundtrack with various sound effects.

LE PRÉSENT QUI DÉBORDE

LE PRÉSENT QUI DÉBORDE

Theatre / Brazil – Belgium; Multilingual, with French and English surtitles

This fiction on wandering mixes theatre and projection, Homeric song and contemporary history to pay tribute to these unabated, nomadic lives, to these exiled heroes, to those who are torn from their lands like trees from their roots. Jatahy addresses the borders between genres and people not as a separation, but as opportunities to build aesthetic and human bridges.

ELEKTRA

Opera in one act by Richard Strauss op.58

Various musical styles and languages alternate and mix, making Strauss' score one of the most intense ever. In addition to this, the orchestral apparatus is enormous - more than 100 musicians are required - and the tonality is extremely broad, bearing the traces of the musical break with the beginning of the 20th century. The nervous evolution of the writing is at times reminiscent of the "steel storms" of World War I yet to come, and the masses of sound overwhelm the listener of the piece by turns with violent expressionism and frenetic late romanticism.

DISCIPLINE AND PERFORM

Temporary exhibition

This prospective exhibition brings together works by Central European artists produced in countries behind the erstwhile Iron Curtain—the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Serbia, and Croatia. Created between 1969 and 1979 at the height of the Cold War, the works shown here bear witness to artistic actions in public spaces. (…) MAMCO continues to broaden its focus by offering an alternative approach to art forms that transcend the Western canon.

GENEVA AND GREECE - Friendship in the service of Independence

Temporary Exhibition

A Greek, Jean Capodistrias, and two Genevans, Charles Pictet de Rochemont and Jean Gabriel Eynard, played a key role in the integration of Geneva into the Helvetic Confederation and the independence of Greece. This exhibition highlights the collection of the MAH as well as those of Geneva institutions and Swiss museums; it also benefits from important loans from Greece as well as from private collectors. Multimedia tools available in French and English. It is recommended to take personal headphones to be connected to your phone or tablet. Watch the video guide to the exhibition, created in collaboration with the Hardt Foundation, on MAH’s Youtube channel.

INSIDE THE DANTE FACTORY

Temporary exhibition

Mainly comprising items belonging to the Martin Bodmer Foundation that have never before been on public display, as well as rare books and manuscripts, Inside the Dante Factory will also offer unusual works lent to us by other institutions. Among the gems on display will be an original copy of the famous portrait of Dante by Sandro Botticelli from 1495. This new exhibition’s aim is clear. We want to make visitors reflect on an apparently simple question- how should we read Dante? And what does it mean to read Dante today? To access its audioguide the app izi.TRAVEL can be downloaded on your smartphone. Guided tours (public or private) are also available in English or other languages on demand.
